VOICE THERAPY FOR ADULTS & CHILDREN

ASSESSMENT

This would be your first appointment and will last approximately 1 hour.

Your first session will include;

  • Assessment of your voice.
  • Advice on how to take care of your voice.
  • Therapeutic goals agreed with you.
  • Being taught how to carry out exercises so you can follow a therapy programme.
  • A therapy programme.
  • Comprehensive written report for yourself, your referring consultant and your GP. 
  • Liaison with the local NHS service if needed.
  • Follow-up consultation via telephone, Skype/Facetime or email to discuss progress.

FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS

Follow-up sessions are either:
1 hour OR 40 minutes 

They include:

  • Working on your voice and applying techniques.
  •  Re-evaluation of your voice.
  • Adjustment of therapy goals, through your therapy programme.
  • All therapy preparation for your session.
  • Liaison with your GP and Consultant as needed through correspondence.
Speech and Language Therapy which treats difficulties with the voice is called Voice Therapy.

 A recent written medical referral is required for voice therapy by an ENT consultant prior to booking sessions. This is a clinical guideline required from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and is essential to treatment. 

We work closely with ENT consultants to understand the causes of your voice difficulty and ways in which we can aid rehabilitation. Voice disorders treated include; (this list is not exhaustive).

  • Chronic cough
  • Treatment of vocal cord nodules
  • Vocal cord paresis
  • Voice difficulties due to muscle tension or muscle weakness
  • Neurological vocal cord difficuties
  • Puberphonia
